World Vision Race.

We’re Taking Up the World Vision Race Challenge to Bring Clean Water to Vulnerable Communities Worldwide

In 2022, A&A Paving and our team members, family, and friends came together to participate in the World Vision Race. The purpose of the race is to raise funds and awareness about the global water crisis. Millions of people worldwide don’t have access to clean water. They suffer from waterborne illnesses, miss school or work, and struggle to care for their families. 96K in donations were received from our area teams. 63K came directly from teams that ran side by side with A&A! An incredible example of Pavers Putting People First! We’re so proud to have been a part of this fantastic event. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated to this important cause!

Proud To Pave It Forward “FOR THE 10”

A&A Paving wholeheartedly supported the 2nd Annual “For the 10” Golf Outing, held at Itasca Country Club. This annual event is one of several initiatives sponsored by Mission Church’s “For the 10” – including The Global Leadership Summit, Project Just Start, the Holiday Gift Mark, DuPage PADS and the Extra Mile Award. “For the 10” is an organization which exists to serve people by identifying and supporting needs within 10 nearby communities – often in unprecedented ways. Without strings attached, Mission Church achieves this vision by funding and organizing exceptional initiatives that meet tangible needs not already met by others. These 10 towns include: Addison, Wood Dale, Itasca, Medinah, Bloomingdale, Roselle, Glendale Heights, Carol Stream, Bartlett and Hanover Park.

This year’s golf outing raised $90,000! As a result, “For the 10” has been able to eradicate the issue of any child beginning the school year without school supplies – here are the backpacks provided for every child in need within the “For the 10” communities. Since Mission Church’s inception in October of 2011, it has strived not to be a church in the neighborhood, but for the neighborhood. As such, “For the 10” was formed as an expression of this commitment to the church’s ten surrounding towns. There are approximately 262,000 people that live within the township boundaries of “For the 10.” Hidden among that population in suburban Chicago are more than 23,000 people living below the poverty level. “For the 10” believes that there are many ways to serve those who are living in one of these ten towns, who have needs that are currently not being met. Ultimately, “For the 10” hopes to transform the ten towns into a destination to live and a place that residents are increasingly proud to call home.

Giving Hope With Phil's Friends

Crew Members - A & A Paving

A&A Paving was fortunate enough to partner with the Bloomindale-Roselle Rotary club to serve at Phil’s Friends in Roselle. Phil’s Friends is a non-profit organization dedicated to “providing support and hope to those affected by cancer.” Using care packages, notes of support called Cards of Hope, and volunteer visitors, Phil’s Friends attempts to give hope to those in dealing with cancer. Along with the Bloomingdale-Roselle Rotary Club, A&A Paving created cards and care packages to be delivered to cancer patients. These packages and cards provide support to people struggling through cancer and their families. The Bloomindale-Roselle Rotary Club is a service-oriented club that sponsors community projects. At A&A Paving, giving back to the community and providing support to those in need are priorities. To learn more about the good work Phil’s Friends are doing head here.

Spreading Holiday Cheer!

A&A Paving Contractors, Inc. team members happily spent a lunch break shopping for toys to donate to For the 10’s Holiday Gift Mart. Delighted with their task, these shopping elves filled carts with holiday presents for local children. Incredibly, these children will receive these gifts from their parents, who will no longer have to worry whether they can afford gifts this holiday season. Each year, thousands of parents throughout the Chicagoland area struggle to provide for their families, let alone purchase Christmas gifts for their children. For the 10, established by Mission Church, partners with friends and sponsors to set up “toy stores” full of new, donated toys at host schools. Families from these schools can shop for the perfect gifts for their children. Proceeds from the toys sales, which cost families $2 per toy but are generally valued at approximately $10, are then given to the school to fund educational initiatives of their choice. As a result, the For the 10 Holiday Gift Mart empowers parents and provides them with a dignified way to purchase gifts for their children this Holiday Season. The effort is completely local; serving 5 elementary schools right here in the northwestern suburbs. Since 2011, over 13,00 gifts have been provided – a spectacular accomplishment where everyone wins: parents, children and schools! To learn more about the For the 10 Holiday Gift Mart, click here.

How much fun can you have wearing a hairnet?

Turns out… you can have TONS of fun.

The A&A Paving team had a wonderful day volunteering at a Feed My Starving Children Packing event, hand-packing rice, soy, dried vegetables and nutritious vitamins in packets that are distributed to the neediest children around the world. Working with several other volunteer groups during our session, FMSC made it possible for us to prepare more than 30,000 meals! Out of the Clear Blue Sky

The term serendipity, or phrase ‘Happy Accident’, is often mentioned when we think of good tidings or a pleasant surprise that seemingly comes out of nowhere – ‘out of the clear blue sky’.

But those who know Todd Eichholz and Bob Olson will attribute their growing good fortune, and that of their company’s, as one with a source much higher than the blue sky…

From a series of events, starting with a long lunch, a new connection and an invitation to attend the Global Leadership Summit – Todd, his partner Bob Olson, and the entire team at A&A Paving has transformed their company and themselves into a culture of success by treating people fairly, getting involved in serving the greater community and making time for their families.

Walk-A-Mile with Wayside Cross Ministries

The song, Walk A Mile in My Shoes, written in 1969 by Joe South, later made famous by Elvis Presley, spoke of the need to see the world through each other’s eyes, during a turbulent period in our nation’s history.

Since that time, the phrase has taken on a host of meanings, not the least of which is the call for us to understand the plight of those less fortunate than us.

Each year the Elgin Wayside Center holds the Walk-A-Mile fundraiser in the middle of February, to help those more fortunate to identify with what the homeless experience on a daily basis. The 1.5 mile trek through the streets of Aurora seeks to bring awareness to the Center’s message of hope and healing to the lost, homeless and hurting.

Inspiring The Next Right Step

And, while guests may come to the Center for food, clothing, and laundry – they receive much more! Since 1993, the Elgin Wayside Center has been transforming the lives of the hurting and needy, with the help of many faithful volunteers.

The Wayside Center helps over 200 individuals every month with practical, life-altering services. As a daytime shelter, the Center operates a job skills program, life skills classes, a job liaison program and one-on-one mentoring relationships while providing lockers, showers, laundry services, meals, two daily Bible studies and personal motivational case management.

A&A Walks With You

Members of the A&A Paving team participated in the 2017, 9th annual walk, raising funds and awareness for this incredible cause, gathering with other volunteers after the walk at an open house to celebrate the fellowship of service and faith.

Operated by Wayside Cross Ministries, the Wayside Center is always on the lookout for caring, compassionate people. There are many ways to help the ministries, including volunteering, donations and business opportunities here.

Phil's Friends

For Phil Zielke, adversity came at him in the form of stage 4B Hodgkin’s Lymphoma — not once, but twice. Diagnosed in April 2004, he endured aggressive treatments and tested free of the cancer by October that year. In April 2005, doctors told Zielke the cancer had returned. After another round of treatment — this time including a stem cell transplant — Zielke was again cancer-free by November 2005.

He emerged from the cancer with his health, with a deeper faith and with a greater sense of purpose for his life. He would help others through their own fights with cancer.

While still in treatment himself, Zielke thought of the things that gave him comfort — his family and friends, his faith. He envisioned a group of volunteers who would support cancer patients physically and spiritually. And he created Phil’s Friends.

Today, the faith-based outreach program has a network of volunteers who pray for those battling cancer, send over 9200 supportive cards per week, and put together and send care packages to patients. The care packages include items to occupy the mind and comfort the body as well as Bibles to be spiritually encouraging.

Some of the team at A&A Paving were honored to be among the volunteers at this incredible organization in the month of January. While there we assisted in sending hope in the form of care packages, along with love and laughter in the form of cards that will be sent out to 39 different individuals battling Cancer.

Patients or their loved ones can visit the organization’s website, philsfriends.org, to request prayers, cards or the care packages.
